* We are committed to the concept of the "Kinetic Chain." Because everything in the body is interconnected, it is vital to consider this linkage when performing the evaluation and developing the treatment plans. At Stadia Sports Medicine, we perform comprehensive evaluations by licensed physical therapists to create unique rehabilitation programs for each individual.
* We staff only licensed physical therapists (not physical therapy aides or assistants) to ensure the highest quality and continuity of care. This is important for two reasons: 1. When you see a physical therapist at Stadia Sports Medicine, that individual is "your" therapist from start to finish. We believe this improves the quality of the care delivered, and minimizes the chance that things will "fall through the cracks." Subtle changes that may affect your treatment plan can be identified earlier and necessary changes made. It costs us more, but is part of our commitment to being "patient-focused." 2. Both patient-therapist and physician-therapist communication is optimized.
* Our goal is to provide the most comprehensive treatment possible, treating not only the location of your pain, but the true source of the problem to get you back to your daily activities/recreation. What to expect * How can PT help me? Physical therapy involves the evaluation and treatment of numerous musculoskeletal and neuromuscular injuries/diseases. Examples include: Sport-related injuries (acute ankle sprains, ACL tears, hamstring strains) Chronic over-use injuries from work or play (tennis elbow, carpal tunnel, plantar fascitis) Post-surgical (ACL reconstruction, Rotator cuff repair) * How do I get started? Iowa is a direct access state for physical therapy, which means you do not need a physicians referral to be seen by a physical therapist. Your insurer, however, may require this. Please contact your provider to check your personal benefits. Then, just contact our office to set up your appointment. Our goal is to get you in within 24 hours. We do ask that you arrive 20 minutes prior to scheduled appointment time to fill out any paperwork. You should bring shorts for any low back or leg problems and walking/running shoes if applicable. * What will I do at the first visit? The first visit will involve a comprehensive evaluation of your musculoskeletal system and the problem at hand. You will be provided with an explanation of the problems identified and goals will be set with you for treatment. More than likely, you will be provided with a beginning home program which may involve exercises and activity/posture modification. Remember, the success of your treatment also involves you and your ability to follow through with the treatment plan! Will you let my doctor know how I am doing? We believe it is vital to the overall wellness of our patients to have open lines of communication between health care providers. To ensure this, we send letters to the referring physician with the initial treatment plan and subsequent letter every 10 visits or 30 days, whichever comes first. We will also notify the physician when you have completed your course of physical therapy, or if changes in your status during treatment warrant follow-up. You can always let us know if you would like us to include any other healthcare providers in your treatment plan. |
