Stadia Sports Medicine is the first provider in the city of Des Moines to offer the ASTYM system to patients for the treatment of chronic overuse problems, a few of which are listed below:
ASYM was developed by Tom Sevier, MD, FACSM in Muncie, Indiana. Dr. Sevier's interest in optimizing treatments for chronic tendinopathy stemmed from having dealt with chronic achilles tendonitis while playing collegiate basketball. He eventually became a partner at Central Indiana Orthopedics and Sports Medicine, as well as the fellowship director at the Ball State sports medicine fellowship, where Dr. Carlson had the opportunity to train under him. The positive impact ASTYM was having on orthopedic patients was so impressive that Dr. Carlson decided to send his own therapists to Indiana to train in this technique as well. Stadia Sports Medicine has clearly benefitted from the close relationships we have been able to maintain between our clinic and the people at Performance Dynamics -- ASTYM's parent company. We are proud to be associated with this unique option for treatment of chronic soft tissue pain. If you are having pain that is limiting your daily function or return into activity, give us a call, or ask your doctor for a referral. We understand tendinopathy! ASTYM is different from most other adjunctive therapy treatments in that there is research to validate the fact that it actually works at the tissue level. Also, from the beginning, the effectiveness of the ASTYM system has been supported by the outcomes obtained on patients who are treated with it. This data is available below for reference.
